Halden Coatings — a family that was about to over-file
A specialist industrial coatings business had three overlapping UK applications and no assignment from the founding chemist. We froze further filing, completed the chain of title, filed a PCT on the enabling process, and kept the catalyst recipe as a trade secret with access logs and a supplier NDA refresh.
National phase ran in the UK, Germany, France and the United States only. Two earlier applications were allowed to lapse once the PCT published. Annual official-fee spend dropped by 38 percent while the commercially relevant claims survived intact.

Brinkvale Apparel — house mark and lookalikes
Clearance killed the first proposed word mark against a 2019 UK registration. The second mark filed in 14 classes, with a Madrid designation into the EU and the US. A 12-month watch caught a near-identical listing on a marketplace; a takedown and a measured letter to the seller closed it without an IPEC claim.

Freedom-to-operate against a crowded EP family, a PCT filing on the assay chemistry, and a data-room index that investor counsel did not have to rebuild. Software that ran the instrument stayed on copyright and confidentiality; we did not file a UK software patent that would have been refused under section 1(2).
